Skilled Trades

Recently there has been a shortage of workers in skilled trades job. That means there are many opportunities for young workers to get started in these fields. Education in skilled trades can often be completed in less time than a traditional college education, and students have more on-the-job training. It’s a great option for those looking to get working with their hands. Skilled trades include job opportunities such as:

  • Welding
  • CNC Machining
  • Automotive, Auto Body, and Diesel
  • Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration
  • Precision Machining
  • Pipefitting
  • Carpentry

Bay Area Community Foundation even has two scholarships specifically for those going into skilled trades: Mitchell & Janice (Gatza) Hages Scholarship and MI Trucking Association Equipment & Maintenance Council Tri-City Chapter Scholarship. Applications open in December each year. To learn more about skilled trades opportunities, call 989-893-6026 to set up an appointment at the College and Career Resource Center.
